All Eagle Point hay fields are limed and fertilized. Square bales are all under cover and round bales are covered or wrapped. Our hay products include 4 X 5 Round Tifton 85, a hybrid Bermuda and great for horses and cows, Tifton 9 Bahia and common Bahia, less expensive options for horses, cows and small livestock. Tifton 85 is available in small square bales (Approx. 14 x 18 x 48 ), perfect for those needing high quality hay product. Crimson Clover with Rye grass mixed in is usually available in the spring. The first cutting starts in late April and is usually followed by three additional cuts, the last in late October. Delivery is available by quote. We can load round bales at the farm and we can load square bales to flatbeds only or placed at the rear of box vans for loading.

The products grown on the ranch are Crimson clover, Ball clover mixed with Tifton 85, Tifton 9 and common Bermuda grass mix. In the fall, Crimson clover is drilled and then fertilized and lime added in February. The clover is cut and bailed late April through early May.

Tifton 85 fields are drilled with Dutch clover so the first cutting is a clover and Tifton 85 mix. In early summer the Tifton 9 and Bermuda grasses are harvested in 5x5 round bales but may be square baled upon request. All of the Tifton 85 hay is square baled in conventional size of approximately 14” x 18” x 48”bales. This product is also baled in the 5’ x 5’ round bales as well.

All of our hay is available at the ranch. Loading assistance can be provided and shipping can be provided as long as the shipping and product are prepaid.

About Tifton 85

Tifton 85 Bermuda grass is a new hybrid developed by the USDA-ARS in cooperation with the University of Georgia Coastal Plain Experiment Station, Tifton, GA., and was released in May, 1992. It is a cross between a plant introduction from South Africa and Tifton 68, a highly digestible, but cold-susceptible hybrid. It does not produce seed.

Tifton 85 is taller, has larger stems with broader leaves, and a darker green color than Coastal Bermuda grass. It is higher in quality than Coastal as well. It has larger rhizomes and very large stolons (above-ground runners) that spread rapidly and quickly to cover the ground. Tifton 85 can be established from either sprigs or top growth material. Cold tolerance of Tifton 85 is less than that of Coastal.

Our studies have indicated that Tifton 85 can produce 26 percent more forage that was 11 percent more digestible than Coastal. Tifton 85 may be the fastest producing, highest yielding Bermuda grass released to date. Tifton 85, like other Bermuda grass varieties, requires water and adequate fertilizer to produce optimum yields of forage for hay or grazing. These observations do not reflect maximum yield potential of Tifton 85, which could be greater with more evenly distributed rainfall and increased Nitrogen fertilizer applications. Tifton 85 should be highly productive on sandy, well-drained soils.

At Eagle Point, we carefully monitor weather condition and harvest Tifton 85 within 4- to 6-week intervals, allowing maximum growth rate and quality.
